The Circus Came to Town!

Ladies and Gentlemen, Boys and Girls!
The circus extravaganza was in town!
The weather was just gorgeous on Saturday, even as I was walking out of the mall Saturday night at 9pm. I had a little skip in my step as I took in the warm evening air, imagining the circus festivities out in the grass on a perfect sunny day. Children racing from game to game, adults visiting and snacking on food, breeze blowing, birds chirping. I was pretty sure I couldn't imagine more perfect conditions! Not surprisingly, I was up into the wee hours of the morning, madly trying to pull everything together. Around midnight, I heard the wind kick up. Around 1 am, the rain started. Around 1:01 am (though I can't be totally sure this time is exact. Where are Watchman and Hubby when you need them?) my tears started to fall. Okay, so not really, but oh my gosh I was so bummed!

I made plans to have everything in our garage, but hoped we could at least have the garage door open. Not a chance. We woke up Sunday morning to freezing cold winds, rain, and just generally ickiness. I tried really hard not to be disappointed and to just go with it. It was fine (if you could get past our dirty concrete garage, less than ideal lighting, dust, and cramped quarters) and, most importantly, Little Lion didn't seem to mind! I keep trying to remind myself of that! :)

The Birthday Boy! Little Lion was most content chasing one of many balls, of course.

I was planning to make clown party hats and was tickled to find these at Hobby Lobby! They are really party cones with a simple cord on them instead of elastic. I cut the cord off, stapled elastic and they worked great (for the most part...except for a few that had broken strings...but the majority were perfection!)

Our sweet Bud playing the Goldfish Toss Game. One of the party favors was a box of animal crackers. Another was a goldfish in a bowl. I still snicker when I think about that!

Bud's little brother, J, also playing the Goldfish Toss Game.

Little Miss L playing "Feed the Lion"

Our sweet cousin, E, at the craft table. We had picture frames, stickers, and markers for kids to decorate a picture frame. We took each of their pictures inside the circus Big Top. We'll print the pictures and send them to our party guests to put in their frame.

Little Lion playing in the garden with J. Every circus has a garden, yes?

The Big Top cake.

Little Lion was a big fan of the blue frosting. He didn't eat much cake, but licked lots and lots of frosting. He also successfully smeared it in his hair, inside his ear, and stuffed it up his nose. Good times.

More pictures to come of Big Top Tent pictures and the high wire act!
